Why We’re Called Chuckle Engine Spirit Company

Some names are chosen for clarity.  Others for tradition.  Ours was chosen for something far more important: personality.

We became Chuckle Engine Spirit Company because it captures exactly what Sue and I believe great spirits should be - bold, characterful and built with a kind of joyful excess that refuses to apologise for itself.

Our inspiration comes from the Victorian age, a time when craftsmanship wasn’t dictated by budgets or shortcuts, but by ambition.  It was an era of steam locomotives that were as dramatic as they were functional.  Nothing was built simply to “do the job.”  Everything was built to impress, to endure and - whether intended or not - to make people smile.

That spirit (pun absolutely intended) is at the heart of everything we create.

We don’t believe in making something just because there’s a gap in the market.  We make spirits because we’re curious about what happens when you push flavour further, when you layer complexity instead of stripping it back and when you allow a little mischief into the process.  The result isn’t always predictable - but it’s always interesting.

Take our Botanical Vodka.  It’s not content with neutrality; it has something to say.  Our Rogues Rum leans into its rebellious side, refusing to sit quietly in the background.  And our gin?  Let’s just say it has opinions - and it’s not afraid to share them.

Each bottle we produce is infused with character, curiosity and just enough eccentricity to keep things from becoming too serious.  Because while we take quality and craftsmanship incredibly seriously, we don’t believe that enjoying spirits should feel stiff or ceremonial.

The name Chuckle Engine reflects that balance perfectly.  It hints at machinery, precision and a certain over-engineered brilliance - but with a wink.  A reminder that, at the end of the day, what we’re creating is meant to be enjoyed.

So yes, our name might raise an eyebrow at first.  That’s kind of the point.

Because if you’re going to build something properly - really properly - you might as well have a bit of fun with it too.
